Fitness is a profession of increasing significance and we’ve reflected this in every aspect of our training courses. We limit class size, providing you with exactly what you need to begin your new career; right from the foundations in anatomy, physiology, movement mechanics, and skills required to teach and train, through to the business and marketing savvy required to get you going.


Our courses have been designed by a professional educator to meet the needs of the adult learner. We’ll give you the skills and know how to get to work right away. And we promise a ton of fun! We recognize learning happens at different speeds, so once you register in one of our courses, we will keep working with you, for as long as you are willing, to ensure your success. That's our guarantee.


The majority of our courses provide ultimate flexibility through blended learning; meaning a portion of the course is online and a portion is face-to-face. We’ve discovered over years of teaching these courses that some material lends itself very well to online discussion forums, while other areas really needs live interaction and hands-on experience. We’ve tried to keep the face-to-face components confined to a couple of intensive days over a weekend, to make them as easily accessible as possible, and our online pieces are scheduled and paced to keep you on track.


Our courses do prepare participants to obtain certification for both BCRPA, British Columbia Parks and Recreation Association and ACE, the American Council on Exercise, but those who plan on obtaining certification should ensure they check the certification/registration requirements before registering for a course.  Please also note that each course does require a text which needs to be ordered in advance.



Fitness Core Essentials

Foundational to all of our other courses, and approved by the BCRPA as Fitness Theory, this paced program introduces you to the basic anatomy and physiology needed for working in the fitness field, including musculoskeletal anatomy, muscle mechanics, cardio-respiratory physiology, energy systems, conditioning principles, as well as the foundations of nutrition and weight management. (40 hours, 18 online and 12 face-to-face)

Prerequisite: Keen interest in Fitness

    January 25 - 26, 2014 (Sat -11:00 AM - 7:00 PM and Sun - 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM)

Group Fitness Instructor

Teaching Group Fitness classes is truly an art and a science, requiring not only a sound understanding of movement principles and basic fitness theory, but also the ability to lead, teach, entertain, and motivate. Come prepared to move your body as you learn to lead, motivate and inspire a group, in this BCRPA approved Fitness to Music Module. (24 hours face-to-face)

Prerequisites: Fitness Core Essentials*


    Spring 2014 Dates: March 1 - April 1, 2014, with face to face

    June 6 - 8th, 2014 (f 6:30 - 9:30 PM, Sat  11 - 7 PM and Sun 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM)

    Price: $350.00 or $325.00 Early Bird by February 14


Personal Trainer Level One (BCRPA approved Weight Training Instructor)

Equivalent to the BCRPA's Weight Training Instructor Course, this course will prepare the learner for registration with the BCRPA as a weight room instructor. The course focuses on preparing you to safely and effectively teach individuals how to perform most weight training exercises. (24 hours 12 online and 12 face-to-face)

Prerequisites: Fitness Core Essentials*


    Spring 2014 Dates: February 14th - March 15, 2014, with face to face

    April 5 - 6, 2014 (Sat  11 - 7 PM and Sun 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM)

Pilates Fitness Leader

Many Pilates exercises do fit within the scope of a registered fitness leader teaching apparently healthy individuals. This hands on module, combined with the Fitness Core Essentials above, will enable you to apply for certification as a BCRPA Pilates Fitness Leader. Those looking for a more comprehensive Pilates certification should check the Balanced Body or STOTT websites for further information. (24 hours face-to-face)

Prerequisite: Fitness Core Essentials*


    Spring 2014 Dates: May 1 - 31, 2013, with face to face

    May 9 - 11, 2014 (Fri 6:30 - 9:30 PM, Sat  11 - 7 PM and Sun 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM)

Yoga Fitness Leader

Many yoga asanas, or postures do fit within the scope of a registered fitness leader teaching apparently healthy individuals. This hands on module, combined with the Fitness Core Essentials above, will enable you to apply for certification as a BCRPA Yoga Fitness Leader. Those looking for a more comprehensive Yoga certification should check the Yoga Alliance of BC website for further information. (24 hours face-to-face)

Prerequisite: Fitness Core Essentials*


    Spring 2014 Dates: April 1 - May 1, 2014, with face to face

    May  2 - 4, 2014 (Fri 6:30 - 9:30 PM, Sat  11 - 7 PM and Sun 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM)                

    Price: $350.00 or $325.00 Early Bird by March 28


Personal Trainer Level Two

Building on the content of Personal Training Level One, this course will prepare you to design, and teach customized individual programs for apparently healthy individuals. This course will prepare you to write the American Council on Exercise Personal Trainer exam, and obtain certification as an ACE Personal Trainer. (24 hours face-to-face)

Prerequisite: Personal Trainer Level One

*Those wishing to register with the British Columbia Parks and Recreation Association (BCRPA) as a Fitness Leader must complete Fitness Course Essentials, and register in Fitness Theory with the BCRPA BEFORE taking this course.
